Haridwar is an ancient old city of India(Bharat). Haridwar is very important place for Hindus. Dated back to years and centuries old, the holy city haridwar is known as the Mayapuri. Often descibed in various books, haridwar is the land of mother ganga. Mother Ganga is known for the liberation of Human souls. Haridwar is the place that is the stairway to Lord Hari. People in millions come to haridwar for moksha. Bathing in Ganga river is known auspicious and has spiritual benefits. Lord Vishnu is said to have kept the foot here in haridwar and that place today is known as Hari Ki Pauri. It is seen that River Ganga today also touches the level of Hari Ki Pauri. It is Hari ki Pauri where you will feel the immense and spiritual Ganga Aarti that happens daily in the morning as well as evening.

How Ganga River came to Haridwar

Centuries back, there was a king named "Bhagirathi". He want the moksha for his Ancestors but wasn't able to find the solution. So one day with bless of Lord Shiva, Ganga river was brought down to earth in the place named Haridwar. With ganga river flowing throught Haridwar(Hari ka Dwar), Bhagirathi's Ancestors got Moksha and since then Haridwar became an important and divine place for Hindus. Today also, when people want to take blessings of their ancestors they go to Haridwar offers aarti to Mother Ganga and then bath and come back.

Haridwar holds a key position as a place for Hindus. It is the first step to the spiritual journey of Chaar Dhaam(Gangotri, Yamnotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath). People come to haridwar, takes blessings here and then start their journeys for Chaar Dhaam Yatra. Haridwar is a place where the biggest Hindu Festival happens. The biggest hindu festival is kmown as Kumbh Mela. Kumbh mela is the largest religious festival in the world. It is said that during the Samudra Manthan(War between Gods and Demons), few drops of Amrit(the nectar of immortality) fell at four places namely Haridwar(Uttarakhand), Prayagraj(Uttar Pradesh), Ujjain(Madhya Pradesh) and Nashik(Maharashtra). Millions gather on this auspicious festival. The uniqueness of Kumbh Mela is it rotates every 12 years across 4 cities mentioned.

Haridwar holds a key significance in Hindu culture. Also, its is reffered to as "Holy City" mainly because of spiritual importance of the city. The holy water of Ganga and the holy incidents that happened here in the past, present and that will happen in the future completely defines the purity and divine nature of the city.
